The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has recognized the American company Apple as a violator of antitrust laws, the service said.

„The Commission of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia found Apple guilty of abusing its dominant position in the iOS app distribution market,” the report says.

The company is waiting for a turnover fine, its amount will be determined in the course of an administrative investigation.

According to the law, for the abuse of a dominant position in the commodity market, the turnover fine can be 0.01% -0.15% of the company’s annual revenue in the Russian Federation.

The regulator has been pursuing a case against Apple since the end of October last year. Previously, the service issued a warning to Apple to address a violation related to the inability for users to pay for goods in applications from the AppStore catalog using external links. The requirements according to the warning had to be fulfilled by September 30, 2021.

Then the Federal Antimonopoly Service established that Apple prohibits iOS app developers from informing customers inside the app about the possibility of paying for purchases outside the App Store. Otherwise, the corporation does not allow applications in the App Store.

At the same time, the FAS emphasized that Apple’s actions limit developers in independent behavior and can lead to an increase in prices for their products.
