The emergence in Russia of new variants of the omicron strain of coronavirus will lead to an increase in the number of infections, which is now observed in Moscow, warned the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

“With the advent of new sub-variants of the Omicron strain, we will see an increase in the number of new cases, which is now observed in the capital,” the press service of the department reports her words.

At the same time, it is clarified that new varieties of the strain do not lead to a more severe course of the disease or to an increase in the number of occupied beds. Despite this, the Russians were urged to maintain a high degree of readiness for possible new challenges.

According to the operational headquarters, over the past day in Russia, 4,238 new cases of COVID-19 were detected, 1,283 people were hospitalized, 43 patients died.
